Unmanned aerial vehicle powerhouse, DJI has updated a new version of the virtual goglgles it launched with a much raunchier race track version with the Goggles RE (Racing Edition) targeted at drone racers,  racers, aerial enthusiasts and RC hobbyists.

The edition takes on a completely new look, with a redesigned metallic matte black visor and headband, along with a high-quality red leather padding for maximum comfort. To make this work, DJI developed an external OcuSync Air Unit and camera module which can be installed or mounted on any drone or aircraft to provide operators using the goggles with a real-time first-person-view experience. 

Once paired, the unit can receive and display videos through 2.4 or 5.8 GHz digital video transmission with latency as low as 50 ms and a maximum control range of up to 7km. Spectators can join in the fun if they hook on a goggle and view it or connect  another Mavic Pro controller to access visuals just as the pilot. 

Drone racers can now access flight setting adjustments, gimbal control, and precise flight data, which is rhey find useful in serious racing. Essential flight information including transmission resolution, battery level, and signal quality, is visible on screen. 

Apart from drones the camera and sync module can also be used in other remote-controlled vehicles and robots, the DJI Goggles RE on the other hand can find its application useful in enterprise applications to provide operators a clear and close up perspective during search and rescue operations, structural inspections, or agricultural use.

The DJI Goggle RE is priced at US$549 and will start shipping end November.
