Mozilla Firefox who?

Looks like Microsoft revamping their former Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge has made a substantial difference to users. First spotted by Bleeping Computer, Edge is now the second most popular desktop web browser, based on usage. This is based on NetMarketShare, who mentions that the Edge browser held 7.6 percent of the market in March, in comparison to Mozzila Firefox’s 7.2 percent.

Okay fine, it’s not that huge a difference in the short term, and especially when you compare it Google Chrome’s dominance of 68.5 percent of the market. But considering this new Edge browser is barely three months old, it’s worth noting.

And another fact worth mentioning is that Edge is Windows’ default web browser. That probably contributed to the rising number of users on their browser, but the fact that it’s now Chromium-based would’ve helped users switch over. This change made Edge a faster browser, in terms of speed, compatibility with extensions and web pages. The older version was running on Microsoft’s engine, which admittedly was slower, clunky, and less so reliable.

Though weirdly enough, Internet still holds 5.87 percent of the market, meaning there are still people using it. Guess Internet Explorer hasn’t gotten the memo about it, you know, not being a thing anymore.
