Famed Dialect Coach To LOTR Franchise & Star Wars Actor Dies From Coronavirus

Andrew Jack, best known as a dialect coach to over 80 motion pictures, and actor in Star Wars has died in Britain after contracting coronavirus.

Jack was 76 when he died in a hospital in Surrey on Tuesday, Jack’s agent Jill McCullough said in a statement.

“Andrew lived on one of the oldest working houseboats on the Thames, he was fiercely independent but madly in love with his wife, also a dialect coach,” McCullough said.

Jack was General Ematt in the Star Wars films, and he appeared in “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi”, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.”

General Ematt

His wife, Gabrielle Rogers, who is quarantined in Australia posted on social media saying:

“Andrew Jack was diagnosed with Coronavirus when admitted to hospital less than 48 hours ago in suburban London. He died today. He was in no pain, and he slipped away peacefully knowing that his children, step children, grandchildren, brother, friends, and I were all ‘with’ him.”

While his role was considered a minor one in the Star Wars films, he was an important figure in the entire saga’s universe. Another thing I’d like to point out is his work behind the scenes, which people might not know of.

As I mentioned earlier, Jack was a supervising dialect coach for “The Lord Of The Rings” trilogy, where he created the Middle-earth accents and taught the cast. He also taught the cast Elvish, and Black Speech, which were all essentials to the movies.

He has also worked with over 200 actors, including Robert Downey Jr., Pierce Brosnan, and Chris Hemsworth.
