DeepMind is Being Used by Google to Cut Down Electricity Consumption

2012-transparency

Google’s DeepMind AI treats power consumption like a game, with the “highest score” being how efficient it can be. The software “controls about 120 variables in the data centers. The fans and the cooling systems and so on, and windows and other things.”

By acquiring DeepMind, Google can distribute power consumption more evenly. Google uses a massive amount of electricity consumption, so even a small percentage of power reduction can save a gigantic amount power. The recorded use of electricity by Google is 4,402,836 MWh which is the average yearly consumption of about 366,903 U.S. family homes.

Google looks to save more in the future, as the AI now knows where to cover to save power and use electricity more even and efficiently.
