This should be considered your good news for the day, as the four year old girl from China who was infected by the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has been has recovered!

She was the first found to be infected out of 10 patients in Malaysia and was subsequently admitted to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi on Jan 29th. She has now been released and allowed to return home, a Health Ministry official said.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the girl who had been treated at an isolation ward since Jan 29, has been discharged from the hospital.

“The results of the 2019-nCoV detection test conducted twice on the patient turned out negative. She is now healthy and allowed to go home.

“This showed that the 2019-nCoV infection is treatable and that patient can fully recover, similar to many other cases that have been reported in China.

He then went on to talk about how people have assumed that the coronavirus is untreatable is wrong.

“Perception among the public that the 2019-nCoV is fatal (could not be treated) after one has been infected by the virus is certainly wrong,” said Dr. Hisham

And he’s certainly not wrong. I’m assuming a lot of people don’t really know what is really going on with the coronavirus, which is bad. Public perceptions have been skewed by people posting false information, or even fear mongering around the internet, which just makes it worse.

But really, this is thanks to the hardworking medical staff, doctors, Ministry of Health, and all involved in helping to contain the spread of the virus, and now, even curing it. Hopefully this is a sign for good things to come, but till then, don’t forget to sanitize, wash your hands with soap frequently, and cover your coughs and sneezes. That’s just good manners.
