Borderlands 2 Gets Free DLC Setting Up Borderlands 3 Universe

Gearbox software has released some more details, regarding their up and coming instalment of the Borderlands franchise. And to quell rumours of the game and more, they’ve announced at E3 that Borderlands 2 is getting a new DLC that sets up Borderlands 3 and is available now. Not only do you get to revisit Borderlands sooner, you get new content and some story regarding what’s going to happen in the 3rd iteration of the game. All in all, for fans of the universe, they’re mighty excited.

The DLC is called Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary, and it shows off characters of the Borderlands universe coming together to fight a common foe. The Vault Map is stolen, and Sanctuary under attack,  you don the once beloved characters from Borderlands 2, Maya, Salvador Zer0, Gaige, Axton, or any of the characters from the previous DLC expansions. The DLC includes a new original storyline, returning characters and a new “Effervescent” tier of loot with some rainbows and high stats. Overall, it’s a pretty good step for the 7 year old game.

The boss seems to be some kind of vine, flower monster dude. Not as intimidating, but if done right can set up and hype the Borderlands series to further heights.

The DLC will be free for players who already own Borderlands 2 or The Handsome Collection. And coincidentally (not really) Borderlands 2 and the Handsome Collection is this month’s free game for PS+ users. Let’s just say, that’s smart thinking by the Gearbox team there.

Considering it’s been years since the last release of a Borderlands game, it’s a good reminder to fans to pick up the game and check out what’s next. People getting a refresher course on the mechanics, characters, and universe, might not be the worst thing to do. I mean, who remembers something 7 years ago? Borderlands 2 released in 2012, just to let you know. The year we all thought the world was ending?

Well that’s pretty much it for Borderlands news. It’s all aboard the hype train for me, because Borderlands is coming back and it’s coming back with style. And I personally can’t wait, for what Gearbox has in store next for the series.
