Great news, Apple users. You can now have a peace of mind when you send your MacBook and MacBook Pro for keyboard repairs because it can be fixed within 24 hours from the time you bring it to the store. If you can’t live without your laptop for a day, this is really good news indeed. The news came from an internal memo sent to Apple Store employees which was obtained by MacRumors. Previously MacBooks were shipped to an off-site repair center but now keyboards can be fixed in-store.
The memo, titled “How to support Mac customers with keyboard-related repairs in store,” also advises Genius Bar technicians to “prioritise” the repairs for a next-day turnaround time. “Most keyboard-related repairs will be required to be completed in store until further notice. Additional service parts have been shipped to stores to support the increased volume. These repairs should be prioritised to provide next-day turnaround time,” reads the memo.
Apple is trying to speed up the repair process since the laptops have been crippled by several issues such as the”butterfly”keys introduced in 2015. The lower profile allowed for slimmer devices, but has resulted in “sticky” keys, causing letters to repeat, and at times not responding and popping out of place. But following years of complaints and three lawsuits, Apple launched a keyboard service program to offer free repairs for out-of-warranty MacBooks. It also apologised for a “small number of users” experiencing keyboard issues with their 2018 models.
This 24-hour turnaround service is available for Apple Stores and since Malaysia don’t have an official store, we are not sure if the service is available so do check with your nearest Apple reseller.
