Who doesn’t know what Candy Crush is? That’s rhetorical by the way. Perhaps one of the most popular smartphone game of this decade, Candy Crush is now owned by Activision. The mobile phone game maker, studio King Digital Entertainment, was purchased for a mouth-gaping US$5.9 billion.

Acquisitions such as this is not unprecedented in the tech world. Amazon bought Twitch for a meager US$970 million, while Facebook spent US$2 billion on Oculus VR and US$18 billion on acquiring Whatsapp. Not to forget, Microsoft shelled out US$2.5 billion for Minecraft.

The game has truly been a smartphone wonder. It’s not exactly a new, revolutionary game that challenges you in any level except how far are you willing to kill time doing nothing. However, the game does expand Activision’s user base to kids and families, on top of the hardcore that play Destiny and Call of Duty.
