One of the only mobile data service provider who refused its customers to hotspot their mobile device was Webe. Understandably they were offering ‘never-ending’ data and probably with genuine intention wanting to avoid abuse.
But not being able to use the smartphone to hotspot while you use your laptop or tablet defeats the purpose of being mobile altogether. A tricky situation for the provider, who is in the wireless broadband business. After numerous feedbacks (mostly complaints) Webe buckled and offered customers 1GB free for hotspot albeit for a limited time however clearly that amount is still insufficient if you’re like the majority of users in the country who like to video binge.
The telco again went back to the engineers asked some important questions like “can our network handle the load if we give more data away for free?” the answer must have been…Yes! Cause Webe has just upped the free data for tethering to 10GB a 10x increase, again for a limited time.
Now that will surely quench most data hungry Malaysians.
