After getting news about the four teams directly invited to ESL One Genting 2018, we have since gotten word of two more teams taking part. These two teams complete the top three during the ASUS DreamLeague Season 8, with Team Liquid taking second place and already invited.
These two teams are none other than Evil Geniuses (EG) and Team Secret. EG finished a respectable third during the recent Valve Major tournament, taking home US$100,000 and 225 Qualifying Points. Ever since the return of long-time veteran Clinton “Fear” Loomis into the fold, EG have since found a level of stability that they have been lacking in recent months.
Hopefully, EG will be able to bring this momentum forward into ESL One Genting 2018. If so, we are in for a great three days of Dota 2 action.
Secret, however, walked away as champions of the tournament, bagging US$500,000, 750 Qualifying Points and of course, bragging rights against the TI7 winners. With the addition of Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard on the carry role and Adrian “Fata” Trinks on the offlane, Secret have since found their groove and finally took home the gold. Their last ever victory was during the Shanghai Major back in 2016 so it’s great to see the captain, Clement “Puppey” Ivanov back on top.
Of course, Puppey was the former Na’Vi captain, who during their reign of terror, managed to capture every conceivable title from 2012 – 2014.
Be sure to keep a look out on this space as we will be updating this article from time to time, depending on when ESL One Dota 2’s Facebook page will be releasing the invites. So far, we are spot on with our predictions, already guessing that EG and Secret will be two out of the three invites. It’s only a matter of time until the next teams receives an invite, and we’re personally hoping for Na’Vi to go through as they have been putting up some impressive results as of late.
