Spotify might be looking into building hardware, according to a job listing first spotted by Zatz Not Funny.
Although the listing has since been removed, it was reported that the description wrote that applicant will “join the Platform & Partner Experience team working to build frictionless and creative Spotify experiences via fully-connected hardware devices. You will be leading an initiative to deliver hardware directly from Spotify to existing and new customers; a category defining product akin to Pebble Watch, Amazon Echo, and Snap Spectacles. You will define the product requirements for internet-connected hardware, the software that powers it, and work with suppliers/manufacturers to deliver the optimal Spotify experience to millions of users.”
So based on that it seems Spotify is making their own hardware, and not just integrating into 3rd party. Also, it seems like they don’t have much of a concrete plan yet, given it’s still up to said candidate to define product requirements.
Zatz’s article also pointed to two other job description showing interests in voice control and natural language understanding – which could come in handy for both hardware and software integration.
