Many of you would already know by now that Samsung Malaysia will on be only importing the 32GB Galaxy S7 Edge to the country which we thing is a good choice because from what we have seen the S7 Edge looks and feels much sleeker than its non-identical twin sister.
First debuted in 2015, the Edge was a radical design switch from conventional plain rectangular smartphones to one that has curved edges on the left and right side of the phone. The new look was welcomed with a standing reception, unfortunately Samsung underestimated its own product with limited stock release.
Not to make the mistake twice, this time around some countries will see the S7 Edge first before the S7, in terms of packaging: just like the predecessor, the new iteration is just as svelte, shiny and stylish with added robustness and improved specifications that we would not expect less from new CEO Dongjin Koh. On the onset the two models doesn’t look much difference, a closer look will reveal the details, the phone is much bigger at 5.5″ but yet remains aesthetically snug in the palm and delicately placed lines along the sides that would have you thought industrial designer Philippe Starck was involved, on the design element. The engineers have also made remarkable changes on the inside and brought back popular requests like micro SD slot and a water resistant feature.
Angel in the Details
The much touted Always-On display has been introduced, showing light weight information like time and calendar on the black screen even when shut down, but intelligently goes off when placed in pocket or when placed screen side down. They do not consume much battery and users have the option of disabling them. Next up is water and dust resistant feature that makes a return after a hiatus from the S6, a sophisticated and complex process has been developed on the new model to keep it dry under water. Unlike Sony Xperia IP rating that falls short of a farce, Samsung has gone to great extent in ensuring water or dust particles do not disrupt the electronic inside the device. Gore-Tex membranes, platinum, nickel and rubber glues just to name a few of the materials used. However, will await for the unit to arrive to our labs to verify these chest thumping claims but we doubt of any shortcomings as these guys traditionally do great phones.
