Sony has stepped into the ring together with VR gaming solutions providers to deliver a total immersive gaming experience. It’s everything that I imagined it would be, which entailed the PlayStation VR bringing me to a whole new level of gaming. This, to me, defines the saying of being ‘in the zone’. The matrix is real guys.
But I digress. As I was saying, it is a totally new gaming experience in terms of visual, audio and equipment I can only imagine what the possibilities could be just a few years ahead.
Designed for Comfort
The PlayStation VR headset was designed to make you feel like you’re not wearing the large headset. At first look, while looks larger than life, the cushions around the completely adjustable headset. You won’t even notice you’re wearing it. It does make you look extra futuristic for this age, like something out of a sci-fi film or you’re part of Daft Punk.
Cable Madness
One thing for sure, there are far too many cables. Patience is key here since there are an abundance of cables, sorted in various boxes. It is easy to lose track of them so if I were you, I would take my time to do some cable management. The PlayStation VR headset comes connected to a cable, which is a tad too short in my opinion. I wish it was slightly longer, or maybe extendable. Or better yet, totally wireless!
Awesome Games Galore
If you’re not used to it, you might feel disorientated. Also, if you are the kind that gets motion sickness easily, stay FAR away from this. We tried out the demo DVD which came courtesy with the demo unit, a short underwater virtual world you will find yourself in, it was surreal as fishes and jellyfish come around you, the games were fun, using your head to err…head the football. There are now a wide selection of VR games in Sony’s list, from Resident Evil VR to Batman Arkham VR, with many more are coming to our way in the coming months.
Point 1: Step Into The Future (Headset Front)
Futuristic design, I feel like I’m Iron Man wearing this. The headset is comfortable enough to make you feel like you’re in a whole other world.
Point 2: Visual Submarine
The panel resolution for both eyes delivers mesmerising visual and audio experience, complimenting the stereo headphones included in the package. Not for those who get motion sickness easily for sure.
Point 3: Setting Up
This will take some time, with multiple cables the PS4 VR feels like you’re setting up a time machine, it took us 15 minutes to figure out what goes where. Also leaves a messy sight behind with cables running everywhere. Once up, the rest was a breeze.
Point 4: Pass the Baton
Controllers are needed for certain games that require extra movement. For lazy bums, this will at least help you move away from the couch.
