After almost three years with only hushed whispers and rumours surrounding the fate of Bungie’s MMO/FPS Destiny, we finally have confirmation that Destiny 2 will be released sometime during the tail-end of 2017. This comes a week after a leaked poster of Destiny 2 was published on image-sharing site, Imgur. Released back in September 2014, Destiny featured a first-person shooter-based MMO with a compelling storyline, allowing you to travel across the galaxy to different planets to complete various missions, raids and even offering a PvP element.

However, one important factor to take note is that current Destiny players will be able to transfer their characters over to Destiny 2, but their items, weapons, gear, currency and abilities will not be transferable. Although, veterans of the first game will receive rewards from Bungie, which will reflect their accomplishments. This is Bungie’s way of saying, “we’re sorry you can’t carry over your imbalanced and broken weapons into Destiny 2 to school plebs, here’s a medal instead.”

As a Destiny player myself, I’m having a somewhat mixed reaction to this.

Although I do have my own fair share of Legendary weapons and gear, it’s nothing compared to the grinders who have been at this game for the past three years so in that sense, I’m actually on the fence about it. With that said, I do hope Bungie builds on the storyline and provides greater PvP elements and raid missions in Destiny 2.
