The government is drafting out the Standard Operation Procedures for schools including students and teachers for the upcoming reopening scheduled to take place sometime in July.

According to Education Minister, Dr Mohd Radzi the detailed SOP will state the procedures from the minute the student step into the compound until they leave the ground. MOE has been working tirelessly in coming up with the process in anticipation of the opening, this is one of the most contented sector that has yet to resume operation as it involves children.

Guideline will indicate the role to be acted on by teachers, the school administration and even parents who will need to practice additional caution when in the premise. While the first batch of schools will be from the form 5 and form 6 age group, parents are nevertheless anxious of the large group of students who will be confined in the school ground. NGo’s have called on the government to share the SOP’s prior for clarity before implementing them, an outbreak in school is unacceptable they claimed.

The Minister eased the worries and asked parents not to be alarmed as the SOP is clear and concise, all aspect has been covered with the advice from the Health Ministry he added. Besides, the school will have 2 weeks allowance before the opening date is announced to prepare.

Countries like China, Taiwan, S Korea and Australia have started school and have places various precautions to protect children from Covid 19.
