7 months, 22 campuses, 1 winner 

The grand finals for U Mobile’s Mobile Legends Campus Championship marks the culmination of passion for the game, intensity in competition and sheer untapped talent. With more than 150 teams competing across 22 campuses nationwide over the course of 7 months, the curtains have finally closed on what is surely the largest participated ground campus eSports event of the year. 

For the elite 22 campus champions, all roads led to Battle Arena, PJ as they roughed it out one last time. This was no longer the student versus student affair that it was in the qualifiers. With each team representing  their respective campuses, it was now an inter-university affair.

The stakes have never been higher and winning has never been harder. Not only were they fighting for the pride of their campus but also for the right to be crowned Champion of the Mobile Legends Campus Championship, and win RM10,000 cash, 5 Razer Phone 2’s along with exclusive U Mobile merchandise. 

With the stage being set, what started with 22 teams in the morning ended with just 1 as LAG, representing UiTM stormed their way to glory, beating L7 from Politeknik Port Dickson 2-0 in an exhilarating finale and emerging as the ultimate champion. You could just tell they wanted it more by the sheer tenacity each player in the team displayed.  

LAG actually didn’t lose a single round on their way to the finals. They beat Indomole from Inti Nilai 2-0 in the second round, Ultra Instinct from UKM 2-0 in the third round and FruityCutie from APU Bukit Jalil 2-0 in the semi-finals. A dominant display!

Muhammad Akid Hanafi Bin Ishak Hizam, team captain of LAG had this to say after the victory:

I’m so very happy because we worked so hard for this. We practiced every night for about 6 months in anticipation for this. Thank you to U Mobile for organizing this and giving us the platform to showcase our talent.”

And with that, MLCC 2019 comes to a close, but what a tournament it’s been! It is a rare occasion to see a tournament that is ALL about the students:

Fostering close friendships amongst students via on campus games and challenges- CHECK

Rewarding them with amazing prizes such as top of the line smartphones and in-game diamonds- CHECK

Empowering students with the platform to express themselves through fun interactive pop ups such as cosplay corner- CHECK

It’s quite a recipe U Mobile has cooked up, and it’s evidently the kind of dish that leaves you wanting seconds and thirds:

I came here to support my friends in the finals but little did I expect to get so into it. To be honest, coming here today kinda made me regret not joining this year. Next year for sure I will join and hopefully win! (laughs)
