Final Fantasy VII Remake Aims to Surpass the Original

Square Enix has been preparing its upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake for the PS4 in silence since the announcement at E3 2015. There is little information to go on, but a recent job listing hints at something fans can expect. Square Enix aims to create a title that ‘surpasses the original’ in its upcoming remake of the JRPG classic.

The job listing asks for a Battle Planner and Level Planner but interestingly also comments on the upcoming title. The description portrays Final Fantasy VII Remake as a ‘new creation not limited to a simple remake’. In fact, the company wants a game that is thoroughly better than the game that originally launched on the first PlayStation.

“Not a ‘remake’. ‘Creation’ is the mission we were given,” the description boldly proclaims.

Square Enix has revealed little on Final Fantasy VII Remake’s development since its initial reveal. Even after two years, fans have no idea when the game will launch.

Admittedly, things have been murky since Square Enix parted ways with developer CyberConnect2 to move development in-house. The company has made multiple recruitment runs since, which, while not an indicator of progress, has brought up concerns from eager fans.

Thankfully, the job listing also reveals that the game has entered full-scale development. Hopefully this means that the game will see a release soon.

Square Enix has promised that Final Fantasy VII Remake will release in parts, similar to Final Fantasy XIII’s releases. This is so that fans do not spend too much time waiting on such a vast game. The first part takes place in Midgar.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for the PlayStation 4.
