The heat was on as the crowds gathered on Boulevard Strip, Low Yat Plaza on a sunny Saturday to attempt to break a world record at the Nokia’s World’s Biggest Angry Birds Playground. A joint collaboration with Nokia, Rovio and Guinness World Records, the event saw thousands playing the Angry Birds game in a relay on a single Nokia N8. Each person is allowed to play one level and the counter goes on whether the person fails to clear the level or not.

Besides the main event, there was a Sling and Win booth where an actual real-life version of the Angry Birds game can be played. Here, there will be a giant slingshot where participants can catapult an Angry Bird plushie to a formation of wood and hogs. If you managed to hit three hogs or more, you will walk away with a limited edition Angry Birds plushie. Other attractions include an exhilarating reverse bungee, a face painting booth, gambits on stage to win Nokia smartphones and a flash mob.

“What we have today is the set up for the World’s Biggest Angry Birds Playground where we, with the help of fellow Malaysians, will attempt to achieve the Guinness World Records for the most people playing in a mobile phone game relay on a single device – the Nokia N8,” said Antony Wilson, Nokia Head of Marketing Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. “The playground will have various Angry Birds activities and we are bringing a day of fun-filled activities for Malaysians and their families and friends- and together, join hands towards achieving a singular goal – to attempt to create a world record.”

Guinness World Records Adjudicator Elizabeth Smith also expresses her anticipation towards Nokia’s campaign: “I’m very excited about visiting Malaysia for the first time and witnessing what I hope will be a very successful record attempt! The record for the most people in a mobile phone gaming relay is a great example of how record breaking requires team work, a huge amount of logistical planning and organisation, determination, and also courage. It’s a very brave feat on the part of Nokia Malaysia to attempt a brand new Guinness World Record, yet to be attempted.”

Angry Birds fans managed to achieve the amazing feat with 2030 people participating in the world record attempt. Despite the sweltering heat and long queues, the crowd was hyped up with all the excitement from the games and gambit plus the attractive prizes up for grabs.
