Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Razak has made his visit to China following on the recent agreement concluded on the setting the worlds first Digital Free Trade Zone in Kuala Lumpur. And the first news to come out from this is the announcement from Alibaba, committing  on the setting up of a data centre in Malaysia.

Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, announced today that it will establish a data center here later this year to provide enterprises in Malaysia and the region with a scalable and cost-effective cloud capabilities.

With already 14 locations worldwide, the new centre in Malaysia will be first of its kind in the country by Alibaba Group. The plans was unveiled in conjunction with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Alibaba Group, the Hangzhou Municipal Government and MDEC. Alibaba Cloud will also build in cloud platform in Malaysia to help local SMEs in areas such as big data and Internet of Things.
