On the 65th episode of “Keluar Sekejap”, the podcast studio and viewers have been visited by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, or also known as Tun M.
Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ), the former minister of Ministry of Health, and the host for “Keluar Sekejap”, during the podcast, directly confronted Mahathir with the question, “Why do you dislike me?”
Despite looking flustered for a few seconds, Tun responded calmly, stating, “Because you contested against my son.” He added a notable detail, mentioning that KJ’s mother-in-law, the late Endon Mahmood (former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s first wife), had campaigned for KJ. KJ, who is married to Nori, Abdullah’s daughter with Endon, contested the claim with a chuckle, asserting it wasn’t true.
Tun M, however, insisted on his perspective, acknowledging that people had discussed this matter. Despite KJ’s denial and a brief exchange on the topic, Tun M urged against further discussion, stating, “Let’s not discuss that. That is my belief.”
The animosity between Tun M and KJ originated from the 2009 UMNO elections when KJ emerged victorious in the contest for the UMNO Youth chief’s position. His win came against Mukhriz and Khir Toyo, former Selangor Menteri Besar. KJ served as the Youth leader for nine years until 2018 but faced suspension by UMNO in 2022 for alleged breaches of party rules during the general election in November of that year.
