Okay, NBC needs a new hobby and new ideas because another show about disappearing planes? Really?

Departure, a six-episode miniseries, is set to be released on September 17 on the online streaming site Peacock. It tells the story of passenger plane Flight 716, which vanishes mid flight, causing a team of investigators to try to unravel the conspiracy before another plane disappears.

Sounded a little familiar? Yeah, that’s because Departure marks NBC’s second show under the channel about missing airplanes after Manifest , a show that centres on the passengers and crew of a commercial airliner who suddenly reappear after being presumed dead for more than five years.

Manifest was recently renewed for a third season back in June, meaning NBC will be the proud owner of two completely unrelated airplane disappearance conspiracy shows, airing concurrently. Talk about conspiracy theories obsession am I right?

So how would Departure be any different from Manifest? Well according to NBC, Departure appears to be taking a departure (pun-intended) from the network’s previous vanishing plane shows and taking a more grounded approach to the concept. The series is a lot shorter with only 6 episodes and appears to be pinning the missing flight on a more conventional terrorist attack, not a supernatural event caused by aliens or wormholes or any other unexplained forces.

So with that being said, I for one am not excited for this. I’ll admit, the Manifest trailer did caught my attention and made me want to see the show but to have another show about plane disappearances? Not to say I won’t check it out ever as it is a mini series so it’s short. Either the characters will solve the mystery in the end or it’ll leave us with a cliffhanger, who knows.

Will you guys tune in? I might check it out but don’t hold me to that promise.
