Super Nintendo World isn’t just an idea on paper anymore. Nintendo and Universal Studio Japan held the breaking ground ceremony on a site in Osaka, Japan.

All fancy hats and gloves aside, it has been confirmed that Mario Kart will be an attraction in the park. Universal Studios representatives said the park will be broken into video game-style levels, and that one of the key attractions will be what they called the “Mario Kart Experience” – presumably a go-kart style ride in which attendees drive themed karts through environments.

Super Nintendo World was announced in 2015, with comparisons made to the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in its size and scope. Last fall it was reported the park would cost about US$350 million.

Nintendo and Universal Studios aim to officially open the doors to Super Nintendo World in time for the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo. Additional Nintendo-themed areas are planned for Universal Studios parks in Orlando and Hollywood.
