Since the eTunai initiative was launched a week back, Boost, eWallet providers have been aggressively pushing their services across the nation. If you’ve missed out on this program, let us full you in, the eTunai Rakyat initiative was mooted by the Finance Ministry to encourage the adoption of using ewallet for transaction. Three ewallet providers were selected namely, Boost, TnG Digital and GrabPay who will be dispersing RM30 to a total of RM450 million of the peoples money to all users of the new digital platform.
Among the three, Boost and TnG Digital have been active on ground with launch events and special reward giveaways for the e Tunai campaign. Boost has coincided the program with an RM888 campaign with shake rewards while TnG Digital just announced an RM2,000,000 giveaway. However, the quieter one seems to be GrabPay, which is has been a no-show with nothing to little campaign activity. Either they are too comfortable and don’t need the Government support or just not prepared with the program. Parent company Grab has been receiving some flak with the Transport Ministry over its handling of the PSV licensing arrangement and maybe because of that its dragging its feet on the eTunai Rakyat initiative.
Sources on the ground informed LiveatPC.com, GrabPay is no where to be seen on the eTunai campaign, there is zero push to get the Rakyat the RM30 or support the governments plans for a cashless society. Among the eWallet operators, Grab is the only regional player with a massive footprint with its resources, getting the program to the far reaches of the country should be not much of an issue.
With what is already looking like a two way horse race, GrabPay released a statement that they have just about doubled their new user sign ups for the month, a far cry from the pack leaders, who are more serious and committed to the program.
