It took a while but android users finally have the option of enabling fingerprint unlock for the app. The Facebook owned app actually rolled out this option for iOS users back in February. That’s a good 8 months ago! While the option is not necessarily THAT important, it’s always nice to have the option to add an extra layer of security to an app, especially the ones that we Malaysians use so often, such as Whatsapp.
Setting up the feature is relatively simple.
- Head on into your WhatsApp settings by tapping on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the app
- Select account, and then privacy.
- At the bottom of the privacy page, you’ll find “fingerprint lock.” Tap that, then turn on “unlock with fingerprint.”
- It will then ask you to verify your identity by entering the fingerprint you enrolled to unlock your Android phone.
- You can then select when WhatsApp will automatically lock — immediately, after 1 minute, or after 30 minutes.
It’s that simple! Putting an additional security measure for the Whatsapp app is definitely going to be interpreted as a little sketchy though, especially if you’re in a relationship so, be careful friends.
