Encouraging customers to recycle their old devices through the Apple Renew program and reducing energy use in its supply chain are all proving to be success stories. The Liam robot arm that disassembles iPhone 6 is already in action and has already recovered aluminium backs to create Mac mini computers used in its supplier facilities, and 100 percent recycled tin for the solder on the main logic board for iPhone 6s.

The company also announced ambitious goal of creating a closed loop supply chain, where products are built using only renewable resources or recycled material.
