Gobind Deo: Dont Blame Me!

YB Gobind Deo will not succumb to an online petition for his resignation due to the drop in share price of Telekom Malaysia, the country’s largest government owned telecommunication provider who has recently been under fire from the Minister.

TM shares is lagging way below it’s high of RM6 and seen its valuation wiped off in recent months dipping to just above RM2 as of now. The nations fibre broadband provider tasked to wire-up Malaysia with budget allocation from the government under the HSBB project has not delivered on its promise according to the ministry. There are still pockets in urban areas where copper lines are still prevalent which is packaged under the Streamyx plan and has became the thorn in the whole matter due to many complaints coming from users of poor connectivity. Many customers is this area using the service receive speeds of just 1-3MBps, way below the national average.

The petition has gathered over 20,000 signatures but are suspected to a coordinated effort from certain politically motivated parties. Gobind however reiterated that he will not be perturbed by the petition, insisting everyone has the right to voice out in this new Malaysia. In fact the Minister advised TM and other telco’s to buck up and offer better services to all citizens if they want the people’s support.
