Vivo Communication Technology Co. Ltd. is set to demonstrate the new Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors for Display and Metal from Qualcomm Technologies Inc., using modified versions of the VIVO XPlay 6. This, in fact, will be the first time that an under-display fingerprint technology will be demonstrated by a smartphone manufacturer.
The Qualcomm® Fingerprint Sensor is a next-generation ultrasonic fingerprint solution with new enhanced features, consisting of sensors for Display, Glass and Metal, detection of directional gestures and underwater fingerprint match as well as device wake-up. Not only that, it will also be the first commercially announced integrated ultrasonic-based mobile solution that detects heartbeats and the condition of the user’s blood flow for improved mobile authentication.
This new suite of features is made to support more design flexibility for operators and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) by making it easier to differentiate products with unique form factors and advanced features.
It is expected that the Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors for Glass and Metal will be available to OEMs in July this year, and will arrive in commercial devices in the first half of 2018.
And just so you know what to expect, according to Vivo’s R&D plan, fingerprint scanning will not be carried out by an independent button or region. It will become more subtle like under the screen, behind the metal shell, or even in the frame.
