We unbox the ASUS G551J, for science!
Not long ago, we’ve unboxed the GT80 Titan. While that machine was beastly, not everyone is going to be able to afford its five-figure price tag (we’re not joking about it). So going in the opposite direction, we have the G551J from ASUS which is touted to be an affordable gaming laptop, and we’re going to show you what the thing looks like fresh out of the box.
So first things first, here’s a picture of the box itself with the laptop still in it.
And here is a picture with the box opened.
Now, once we remove the laptop’s cloth covering, this is what it looks like.
The screen size on this thing is 15.6 inches, which is a pretty standard size for laptops. Size wise, this one is way, WAY smaller and lighter than the GT80 Titan. Weighing at around 2.6kg, this laptop is about as heavy as a standard laptop.
So here’s what it looks like opened.
Turning the laptop on will cause the keyboard to glow a gentle red.
Here’s the power brick right next to the laptop.
Personally, I find that the power brick to be a bit wider than the usual fare, but it makes up for this by being slightly thinner than most power bricks. Needless to say, this is smaller than the ginormous monstrosity that came with the Titan.
Overall, this laptop is rather portable and is decently heavy.
How does it perform? Well, that’s a question that will be answer in the February issue of PC.com
