Sony Electronics is showing off its latest wares at Photokina in Germany and once again reinforces its strong position in the photography scene with the introduction of the new flagship A-mount camera, the α99 II.

The full-frame model combines the best of many of Sony’s latest digital imaging innovations including a new Hybrid Phase Detection AF system with exclusive features such as theTranslucent Mirror Technology. This gives the camera a superb advantage over competition that will both appeal to professional and enthusiast photographers.

With a 4D focus and Hybrid Phase Detection AF system, the camera now has a precision 79-point dedicated phase detection AF sensor with 399 focal plane phase detection AF points to produce a 79 hybrid cross AF point array.  Giving the camera precise autofocus performance and advanced subject tracking of any high- speed moving objects across the frame. With no moving mirror this ensures steady, continuous AF operation and live image preview during both still image and video shooting. The precision AF system also performs exceptionally in low-light conditions, as it will function properly in brightness levels as low as EV-4 and in dark locations where most other cameras struggle.

A newly designed shutter unit enables continuous shooting at speeds of up to 12fps with AF/AE tracking. If these high-speed shots are being taken indoors under artificial lighting, the camera can automatically detect flicker and time the shutter accordingly to minimize its effect on the resulting images.

At 42.4MP resolution the a99 II can produce ISO range of 100-25600, expandable to ISO 50 – 102,400.
