No OS10 for PlayBook

Blackberry-Playbook

As BlackBerry gears to launch the Q5 running on the new OS10 platform this Thursday in KL, their Chief Executive Thorsten on the other hand  has rescinded on his earlier announcement made this January on the OS being available for the PlayBook. According to the CEO the tablet will still be supported with its existing operating system 7 and not the latest he then when on to cite performance and quality issues for not having the 10 on the device, no additional details were given at this point of time.

With another 100,000 units shipped out in the last three months probably due to the extensive price cuts and the promise of the 10 being onboard, fans are going to be pretty disappointed with this latest piece of news. Whether the Canadian manufacturer will continue to venture into the tablet space after their initial pitfall is yet to be ascertained however we feel the firm should offer some sort of respite for all those who are holding on to their investment. Without the OS10 the PlayBook will not be able to access the 100,000 over apps residing in the new platform designed for the Z10 and the likes.

A quick check on lelong we found used units for sale at around RM600 for the 16GB wifi a stark difference when it was initially launched in July 2011 when they were sold for around RM1500 to RM1200 depending on the plans offered. We will seek further clarification from the local reps during the launch.
