Looks Like The Cybertruck Has Found Its Rival
10 years since the last Hummer was made, GMC is giving the legendary vehicle a reboot and its coming in the form of a 1000 horsepower electric truck. There have been rumours of a reboot for a while now and it turns out that they’ve been well on the mark as GMC has teased the rebirth of the Hummer. The company didn’t really reveal much about the project other than some pretty insane stats on the upcoming EV. It estimates that the new Hummer will have up to 1,000HP, a peak 11,500lb/ft of torque and a 0-60MPH time of around 3 seconds.
Those stats easily make it a competitor to Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck and we’re pretty sure marketing for both companies are going to take a few shots at each other, just like Tesla did with Ford at the launch of the Cybertruck. With the Hummer being such an iconic brand name, it’ll be interesting to see what GMC comes up with and how it goes head to head with the Cybertruck and Ford’s upcoming F-series pick up truck.
In spite of this announcement, we’re going to have to wait till May 20th for a full reveal of the vehicle and even longer for the electric Hummer to be available. The teaser for the vehicle comes with a tiny disclaimer that states GMC expects to make its electric Hummer available in fall 2021.
With the Hummer being well known for its clunky box like build, terrible fuel economy and zero regard for the environment, this reboot practically had to be an EV. It’s 2020, there just simply isn’t a place for loud petrol guzzling trucks with an appalling carbon emission anymore. Whether or not this new direction will appeal to the horde of Hummer fans remains to be seen.
