Najib 1MDB Trial Postponed, At This Rate We Might Have A New Government Before Verdict Is Reached

What is going on in Malaysia, first we have the AG dropping all charges against former Chief Minister now we have the High Court adjourned the trial of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and 1MDB former chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy until further notice.

The reason for the adjournment is pretty audacious, apparently one of the lawyers in the defense team has gone for a Covid-19 test after feeling unwell. No dates will be given until the rest results comes back, and mind you the defense team has an army of lawyers.

Of late Malaysia has been seeing precarious things happen at the courts and in our legal system, clear cut cases are being dropped, opposition party leaders  being investigated for alleged corruption and fines are reduced for politicians compared to the man on the street. Is the new government playing the game fair and square or is there clandestine brokering happening between the the older government (not PH) and PN?

Najib, being charged for multiple cases including this one using his position to order amendments to the 1MDB final audit report. He did so to avoid any action being taken against him, meanwhile Arul Kanda is charged with abetting Najib in making the amendments to the report to protect Najib from being subjected to action.

Both of them were charged under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which provides a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of no less than five times the amount of gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

However will Malaysia ever see the case reach sentencing or verdict, we can’t be certain with so much shady business going on. Maybe by that time UMNO, would have resumed power and all cases be dropped, who knows!
