5G trials are picking up pace around the world with countries like South Korea and Australia already beginning their deployment selected cities. With speeds reaching gigabit levels, 5G is seen as the next evolutionary phase for wireless communication realising the potential of autonomous mobility and connected machines with cloud computing. Applications requiring very high data rate and support for high number of connected devices and ultra-low latency with high reliability will also be possible.
This next generation of mobile communications, also termed as International Mobile Telecommunications 2020 (“IMT-2020”) by the International Telecommunication Union, is expected to provide :greater capacity for wireless networks, greater reliability; extremely fast data speeds; and enabling innovative new services across different industry sectors.
In view of this the agency has established 5G Test Bed Working Group and invites eligible person which includes licensees, equipment vendors, institution of higher learning, researchers, start-up companies, technology partners and local authorities to collaborate in conducting trials and demonstrate the use of 5G use cases in these two designated zones.
Figure 1 provides some descriptions on the benefits and examples on this call for collaboration approach.
The trials or demonstrations will be until 31 October 2019. Interested applicants wishing to participate in the showcase may submit their proposal within the period mentioned below:
