On 8th January, Maxis and Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Huawei’s Headquarters in Shenzhen to explore and collaborate on a TechCity Program in Kuala Lumpur. The collaboration with both companies would will mean them working together to deliver 4G and 5G capacity solutions. This includes innovation in 5G network design, deployment and operating efficiencies, and setting up a 5G innovation lab to develop and bring new 5G use cases for industries to commercialise when the new 5G spectrum is available.
TechCity is an initiative to work with mobile operators around the world to build a 5G target network, incubation of new services with new business models and to provide a better user experience in building an intelligent connected world. The program will include joint branding and innovation of successful use cases nationwide. With the collab, Maxis joins global leading operators in have closer R&D collaboration and privileged access to the latest development of 5G use cases. Huawei has already launched the TechCity Program in other huge cities such as London, Seoul and Tokyo.
Huawei’s Rotating Chairman Guo Ping said,”By working on the TechCity initiative together, we will be able to successfully create 5G solutions based on local demand and replicate them in future global markets. This will support Huawei in its transformation from a technology adopter to a leader in 5G innovation and ecosystem development.”
Other than having access to 5G technologies, Maxis will also be able to modernise their existing LTE network to be 5G-ready. Leveraging on existing investments and footprint, Maxis will be able to rollout 5G services faster when the spectrum is available.
