We are living in different world today, Covid-19 has changed our lives beyond anything we have experienced in history. They key phrase being bandied across is ‘ adaption’, a concept than can offer some sort of semblance for order and plan. This can be achieved with technology and the internet, which we must be extremely grateful for.
The pandemic has caused much distress to school going students including those in the university, campuses have been shut since March and graduating students are mostly left in a quandary. Not to be outdone by the virus, Multimedia University chose to proceed with hounoring its Diploma and Degree students in a special way. The Uni held its Declaration of Diploma and Degree Conferment Ceremony via online to honour its graduating Class of 2020 – instead of holding its annual convocation ceremony.
Believed to be the first of its kind in Malaysia, the ceremony was attended by a select and small group of attendees in Dewan Tun Canselor, at MMU’s Cyberjaya campus here, with more than 2,600 graduates Class of 2020 virtually joining the ceremony at home through a live streaming via MMU official Facebook (FB) Live.
MMU had initially decide to postpone its Convocation Ceremony to next year but felt that it was only right to celebrate those who had worked extremely hard in completing their education and achieve extraordinary accomplishment. The event feted the high achievers of 4 diploma students, 23 bachelors’ degree students and 11 postgraduate students.
Heading the list of awards was the Chancellor’s Award, which is given to an outstanding first-time Bachelor graduate and in recognition of the graduate’s outstanding combination of academic and co-curricular excellence.
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd. Su’ud, President of MMU, was pleased with the award winners. “As an institution, we are responsible for helping groom future generations. I am very happy to see that we have people who are very capable in not just developing their selves, but also capable of inspiring others, as well,” he said.
