ASUS Unveils Thin Bezel 17″ SCAR II GL704 Gaming Laptop

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced a new addition to its ROG Strix gaming laptop lineup. The Strix SCAR II GL704 is the latest 17-inch notebook from the company with fast response times and solid hardware to boot.

Strix SCAR II GL704’s 17.3-inch display boasts a144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and complete sRGB coverage. Inside, it packs 8th Gen Intel processors up to an i7-8750H, as well as an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU holding 6GB of VRAM. Internal storage is split between an M.2 NVMe SSD for firing up games and applications, and an optional 1TB solid-state hybrid drive (SSHD).

Further highlights include its ROG RangeBoost technology, which intelligently utilises additional antennas to extend Wi-Fi range. Meanwhile, the HyperCool Pro cooling system balances temperature with the help of three heatsinks and two fans.

In terms of connectivity, the laptop includes Intel’s latest 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi with 1.73Gbps speed. Furthermore, the Strix SCAR II sports four USB Type-A ports, a reversible USB Type-C (USB-C) port, a Mini DisplayPort connection that supports G-SYNC gaming monitors, and an HDMI 2.0 port.

Design-wise, the Strix SCAR II GL704 makes use of narrow bezels of 400mm-wide. Similarly, ASUS ROG states that its 7.05mm borders are now 50% narrower than its other 17″ competitors. Designed with FPS gaming in mind, the texture design portrays similarities to Kevlar and military camouflage.

Being a gaming laptop, the device does have its share of RGB. Aura Sync allows users to customise the RGB lighting across seven zones; four for the keyboard, two across the front edge, and one along the ROG logo on the lid. The lights also sync to Aura Sync-enabled peripherals such as the Strix Fusion 700 headset and the Gladius II Origin mouse.

Lastly, with the Strix SCAR II GL704, ASUS ROG is introducing a unified platform for its important settings. The Armoury Crate, as it’s called, covers system settings and Aura Sync Lighting. Presets can be made, and also comes compatible with Android and iOS through a mobile dashboard. Besides that, Armoury Crate allows gamers to switch between Turbo, Silent, and Balanced modes on the fly.

At the moment, price details and a release window have not been revealed. However, you can follow ASUS ROG’s Facebook for news as it arrives.
